If jw's obeyed all of the bible commandments what would they be like?
by purrpurr inthe jw's cite abstaining from blood along with other cherry picked commandments.
but then ignore the others.
this is very hippocritical and if they are going to obey one commandment they should be obeying the rest.. just as a bit of fun then... what would jw's be like if they obeyed every rule in the bible?.

chaos and confusion. The Bible is a collection of books written at different times, different places, for different audiences, with conflicting political, social and religious views. The last thing that can be said of the Bible is that it is infallible, inerrant or harmonious. -

i feel more confused than ever
by BlackWolf inwell i know i've been posting a lot of topics like this lately and i'm sorry if i sound whiny or annoying.
my parents were asking me why i was so upset lately and i ended up just telling them the whole truth.
i told them i don't believe in god or the bible because i don't have any evidence of anything.

Plenty of sound advice. But the main thing in this thread or previous ones, no one is telling you what to believe. Do your own research. Don't be scared about Armageddon. According to the Bible and many interpreters that was supposed to happen almost 2000 years ago. Hundreds, if not thousands of religious leaders have predicted Armageddon in every century since Jesus, actually before Jesus lived. Not gonna happen, at least for a long time, and if it does, it may not be due to divine intervention, more like a human made disaster or a natural disaster. -

As a Matter of Conscience, I Am Resigning from the Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses
by Sail Away inafter listening to the hearings of the australian royal commission into institutional responses to child sexual abuse, i am no longer content to have simply walked away from the organization.
as a matter of conscience, i do not want my name linked with the organization in any way.
i know this letter has been posted previously, and i thank the author.

Are you planning to write in the letter that child abuse in the JW's congregations around the world and the RC hearings have prompted you to make this decision? It may start a slow process of waking up for the reader. -

We're All Going To Die

I am with you Garret. Contribute to the lives of others. Leave a legacy and you will never die, or at least exist for as long there is a human soul. We are part of this grand project. Some contribute, some detract. So far humanity has become better, therefore I want to believe that the project is moving in the right direction. All I want to know when I die is that I helped humanity move forward to some unknown grand future. -

Remember the two elderly sisters?
by John Aquila inabout a month ago i posted what had happened to two elderly sisters who were reprimanded by a couple of elders for crying because the jw broadcasting was going to be stopped at the kingdom hall and it was up to each publisher to learn how to use the internet.
if you recall the sisters got together with my mom and talked about it and it resulted in all of them declining to make meals for the pioneers.
here is the link.

Geoffrey Jackson: "That would be presumptuous of us"...
by Calebs Airplane inwithin the first few minutes, mr. stewart asked geoffrey jackson if the members of the governing body consider themselves to be god's spokesperson on earth.. his response: "that would be presumptuous of us" (implying that they don't consider themselves to be god's sole channel of communication).. to me, that was the worst lie of about 26 lies he's told during this hearing.
however, mr. stewart missed an opportunity to call out mr. jackson on this bold-faced lie.
he should have asked him to explain why the watchtower magazine teaches otherwise.

I don't think he lied. He certainly practiced his answer in advance to deceive the RC into thinking that the GB are not deluded religious leaders, but without outright denying that they consider themselves the sole channel of communication of God. He said "it would seem presumptuous...". A strict analysis of the structure of the sentence does not indicate that he lied. Pay attention to the key words "it would seem". He never said "we are the sole..." or "we are not..." -

Thanks Doug,
I will start reading tonight. It looks like a good summary for those who find the 400 page books of Introduction to Hebrew Scripture a bit too burdensome.

Not much to add to the good advice you received. Regarding your eating disorder, based on my personal experience (eating even when I am not hungry) try exercise, even walking can help. But it's better if you establish a routine that you adhere to and is rather intensive. I am skeptic by nature about faith based beliefs, but if there's any subject that would bring out the word faith to my mind, it is exercise. It cures, or at least helps cure many physical and mental problems.
